One of the eldest in the world of music downloads, Rhapsody’s ingenuity and adaptability has proven to be superior among its peers. With more then 4 million music files to download, and growing, there is something that every user can enjoy including the most finicky of music consumers. Rhapsody’s interface was designed to be sleek, simple and just plain old delightful, making it our number 1 choice for digital music.
Rhapsody comes with its own integrated music player, which allows you to download and listen to music faster. We found the player to be exceptionally easy to use and importing music that is already on your hard drive is almost automatic. You can also import your own CDs. This service also offers interesting information about the albums and individual artists found on the site.
The player software that comes with Rhapsody is well designed, providing good sound quality and a good interface for browsing and music discovery, one that significantly adds to the value of the service. Not only is it one of the most compatible services with digital music devices (such as MP3 Players) it is attuned to what price music lovers are willing to pay.
If you subscribe, you can download as many songs as your heart desires for $12.99 a month, but these songs are tethered to your computer. You cannot burn them or transfer them. For $14.99 a month, Rhapsody’s “To Go” subscription allows you to transfer songs to your MP3 player, but they can only be played for as long as you subscribe. When you cancel your subscription those titles will no longer play. You can receive a 10 percent discount if you would like to purchase songs while your subscription is active. They also have 14 days free-trail allows you to listen to 25 songs, entirely, for free; not just 30 seconds clips.
Prices range from $0.99 per track and up to $14.99 per month for their unlimited package. As for compatibility, Rhapsody will work with many OS systems including Mac, Linux and Windows 2000/XP/Vista.
Rhapsody does have its limitations. The only available file formats to download with the service is WMAs and RAXs. Though most MP3 Players and other digital music devices are compatible with the .WMA format, the popular iPod does not accept that format.
Summary: Rhapsody is definitely an over-achiever in the music download industry, excellent search capabilities and quick convenient downloads. The process is simple, just click a few buttons and you're ready to start searching for songs.
