What is an .MP3 Music File?
MP3 is a compressed music file that stands for MPEG-1 layer 3 which means Motion Pictures Expert Group 1 Layer 3. MP3 is an encoded wave file, which in terms of sound quality is nearly the same as audio CDs. The size of the file however, is much smaller than that of CD formats. The size ratio of an MP3 file compared to a wave file is about 1:10 but the sound quality is around 95% of the wave file.
Are MP3s legal?
It is legal when the song's copyright holder has granted permission to download and play the song. It is legal to encode MP3s for personal use, however it is illegal to distribute or trade MP3s without permission from the song's copyright holder. Copyright law protects original works of authorship, including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual compositions. Persons who reproduce, distribute, or publicly perform or display works without a copyright owner's consent, may be in violation of the law. You are responsible for your conduct and for ensuring that it complies with all applicable copyrights or other intellectual property rights and data-protection and privacy rights.
How do I play MP3 Music files?
First thing you need is a computer, sound card and speakers. Then you must get a piece of software called an MP3 player, WinAMP ( download here) is a good FREE player, but there are many other MP3 players out there, you should try them out and find one for yourself. Most of the sites include free MP3 Software. You can of course, depending on your subscription plan type, do what most people do and that is to burn it onto a CD and play it on your home stereo or Car CD Player…
Why join a subscription site when I could use a free service?
The best reason for joining a subscription site is trying to avoid any legal related issues coming from the use of a ‘free service’! In theory, using a free file sharing (P2P/Torrent) service is legal, but you should not use it to break the law and you can be sure that all the well known names in the music business have protected their artwork. The use of a free file sharing service to download copyrighted artwork, depending upon the copyrights laws of your country, makes it illegal.
Another good reason is that nothing is really for free! Many free file sharing programs contains adware and spyware that will slow down your computer, take over your browser and bombard you with advertisements and you will also get limited technical and customer support. You get what you pay for and if it’s free...
Are all of these sites legal?
Yes, we only review 100% legal and RIAA approved licensed sites so that you can feel safe from scams, and from illegal p2p file sharing.
How do I cancel and get a refund from a site?
Please do not send us your refund or cancellation request as we are just a review site, not the site that you have joined. If after joining any of the listed sites you are not completely satisfied please contact them directly. The sites listed all provide a full range of customer services and their main goal is to keep you, the customer, happy.
How come sometimes the file I download is not an .mp3 file?
Actually that is something totally normal. Even if the mp3 format is one of the most common digital music formats, some of the big players on the online music download market decided to use different types of file formats such as .wma, .rax, .m4p or .aac.
Generally, this doesn’t raise any problems if you intend to listen to the downloaded music on your PC, most of the MP3 Players and/or other digital music devices - almost all of them are compatible with at least the .wma file format, excepting the popular iPod™.
Using the iTunes™ service is probably the best choice for iPod™ users who desire a song in .mp3 format.
Will I be able to transfer songs from these sites to my MP3 Player?
Yes, all of the sites are compatible with most MP3 players, except iPods, which only eMusic, Amazon Music and iTunes are compatible with.
